Playstation Phone…apparently it’s real!?

Posted on October 27, 2010

Engadget has released some pictures of the much talked about Playstation Phone which they say will hit the market “soon”. How soon is not made clear. The phone is expected to use the Android 3.0 OS whilst boasting “a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655, 512MB of RAM, 1GB of ROM, and the screen is in the range of 3.7 to 4.1 inches.” The Playstation Phone is also expected to carry a custom Sony Marketplace which will allow users to buy and download games (just iTunes for the iPhone, iTouch and iPad) that are designed for the new platform.

Rumors of the phone have been circulating since August this year with some bloggers claiming to have leaked pictures of the highly anticipated device. Engadget currently holds what it calls the “real” pictures of the phone.

While I confess to being a Playstation fan I can’t say that I am excited for the release of this phone simply because I don’t see people buying a phone just to game. But then again I didn’t expect people to buy the iPhone for more than just listening to music and look where we are now: a completely mobile world where your phone has become your window into the World Wide Web. It will be interesting to see how developers will take to creating games for this device and if Sony’s third party deals will lure them from iTunes development to Sony development? Or will this just open the door for more social games developers.
